Littlecodr: The Card Game that Introduces Kids to Code

Created by The Littlecodr Team

Littlecodr is an insanely fun card game that introduces kids ages 4-8 to the fundamentals of coding.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

YOU are the Champions!
almost 9 years ago – Mon, Jul 06, 2015 at 10:46:04 AM

Hip Hip Hurray! The campaign is over and FULLY funded at almost 140%. Click to tweet about the news (you can edit): click here.

YOU are the Champions!

You are the Champions of Coding that made it all possible, supporting the effort to get kids empowered to succeed with the skills they will need in the future. Now the next phase begins, where you get the first sets of the game ever made (#collectors item!) and Littlecodr gradually becomes a staple of all homes and classrooms (on par with #musthave games).

Deeply grateful to all of YOU! The YOU of course includes all the people who first bought the set at the Grow Conference 2014 in Whistler as well as based on the news articles since then.

YOU are 500 people strong = 500 Champions of Code!

And yes, the Queen song "We are the Champions" did burst into my head as I saw the final results of the Kickstarter, but the lyrics being "You are the champions" instead.

The song has ACTUALLY more to do with it all...

It’s one little known story, but the crazy success of the song was fully intentional. The band worked very hard to make it catchy: "We wanted to get the crowds waving and singing. It’s very unifying and positive." and they succeeded beyond their initial hopes.

In 2011, a team of scientific researchers concluded that this particular song was indeed THE catchiest song in the history of pop music, despite it not hitting #1 in the charts in any major market. To quote the study:

  • "Every musical hit is reliant on maths, science, engineering and technology; from the physics and frequencies of sound that determine pitch and harmony, to the hi-tech digital processors and synthesisers which can add effects to make a song more catchy."
  • "We’ve discovered that there’s a science behind the "We are the Champions" sing-along and a special combination of neuroscience, maths and cognitive psychology can produce the elusive elixir of the perfect sing-along song."

We see Littlecodr following a similar path, as it’s catchy beyond belief, and it’s core message is unifying and positive - you can play the game whether you know coding or not, whether you are a kid or a grown up, and it gives you powerful insights while having pure fun.

Where next?

Contrary to many Kickstarter projects that gather the funds they need to start the process of creating their idea, we are at the final stage - we hit PRINT as soon as Kickstarter releases the funds, and will keep you updated as to when the game boxes get printed, shipped to us and then sent to you.

We have had many inquiries on partnerships and projects, and we will follow up all of them over the next few weeks, and if you get more suggestions, please email us via our site www.littlecodr.com, and anyone who may have missed the Kickstarter can pre-order them there too.

20 hours left to go!
almost 9 years ago – Fri, Jul 03, 2015 at 09:49:29 PM

Thank you to new backers from Morocco, Singapore and Australia, and all over Canada and the US - and - so many encouraging comments... Amazing!

Also we have a new Coding Ambassador - from the Greater Salt Lake City Area, thank you to @Brian Chandler, Managing Director Zab Translation Solutions, who has jumped in already with ideas on spreading the word about Littlecodr.

Time to pay it forward, these are the three Kickstarters currently up that we are very excited about:

  • Makey Makey GO - the World’s First Invention Kit on your key chain
  • Smart Feed - giving kids kids powerful and inspiring content online content
  • LonDIN - Including kids from disadvantaged homes in access of tech camps

Go take a look at these three great projects related to kids and tech. And here is a great article by @Dan Crawley in Venture Beat suggesting 12 games to play AFTER being exposed to Littlecodr.

And finally - I loved the difference between these two t-shirt messages:

May the force be with you, awesome Littlecodr backers!

Wishing you all a super Friday,

Alexandra (team Littlecodr)

Just 3 days left to go! (and - here is what you missed...)
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 02:11:44 PM

... in the last couple of weeks, we got more support from all over the world - exciting to see backers in locations as exotic as Malta, The Gambia and Indonesia!

The three best things about doing this Kickstarter?

  • A. Being funded - Hip, Hip, Hourray!!!
  • B. Making it over 120% already with 3 days to go
  • C. Reconnecting with old friends and making lots of new ones, people as passionate about kids and the future as we are. THANK YOU!

Our last objective is to get users from as many counties as possible... So if you happen to have friends or family in any of the grey zones, help us turn them into Littlecodr nodes on the map!

Alexandra

PS. Latin America and Asia look so bare... BRIC countries join in!

In happiness,

Team Littlecodr

ps. Huge thanks as well to all the Kickstarter staff and other campaigns who shared insights whether they successful or even more importantly, didn't quite make it. This was a huge time saver for us, and we will be paying it forward for sure. Dan Shapiro, founder @RobotTurtles, and Lyssa Neel, founder @Linkitz particular thanks to you two generous souls who shared all your hard lessons learned and demonstrated how to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Stretch goal ideas & first glimpse of game boxes!
almost 9 years ago – Fri, Jun 12, 2015 at 05:10:30 PM

Our campaign is just over one week old and we are less than $1,000 away from our funding goal!  Thanks to you, 145 schools will be receiving sets of Littlecodr along with over 400 sets going to households all over the world. Soon there will be little coders everywhere :)

Stretch Goals

What is a Stretch Goal? If you are new to Kickstarter, stretch goals are goals that campaigns set to reward amazing success well beyond the original funding goal. For example, a stretch goal that we could set would be: If we reach $25,000 in funding, we will send everyone a Littlecodr t-shirt.

How can I help? We are sure that you guys can come up with better ideas than just a t-shirt and we would love to hear from you. If you have ideas for stretch goals please post them in the comments section.

Game Box Sneak Peak!

We are really eager to get this game in your hands as soon as we can and we are not wasting any time getting the production order ready to go. Part of that process is reviewing prototypes and making sure that everything is just right when we finally press print. We are excited to share the first prototype boxes, hot off the press!

Finally, we would like to thank our growing list of Coding Ambassadors and our first Noble Cause backer!!

  • Praveen Varshney - Noble Cause!!
  • Pankaj Agarwal
  • Sarge Salager
  • Dan Slee
  • Antoine Bouthors
  • Elena Tuason Verlee
  • Cameron Blandy
  • Avi Finkel
  • Wendi Davies
  • Casey Cady
  • Marcin

Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!
